Pedestrian crossing PCH struck, killed by SUV

DANA POINT – An 18-year-old woman was struck and killed by a moving vehicle as she attempted to cross Pacific Coast Highway early Sunday, police said. O.C. protest targets Syrian government

ANAHEIM – An American flag draped over his back, Yaman Kahf stood with hundreds of protesters Sunday, roaring a message of solidarity from Orange County’s Little Arabia to the blood-stained streets of Syria. ”The important thing is that the people over there need to know that they’re not alone,” said Kahf, a Garden Grove resident. The rally at Brookhurst Street and Orange Avenue drew more than 300 people, all expressing hope Syria will be the latest Middle East country to witness the toppling of a long-reigning autocracy. Man facing prison for hiring illegal workers

According to federal prosecutors, Rick Vartanian, 57, was found to have hired several undocumented workers. In 2009, Vartanian is accused of telling officials those workers were no longer at his store, but had in fact taken steps to hide the workers from being detected by federal officials.
